Welcome There is nothing more exciting than innovation. From the wheel to the light bulb to sliced bread, innovation has changed the world we live in and the way we live in that world.
I believe passionately in the power of innovation and in the power of everyone to learn how to become better innovators. I also believe that all good innovation is pragmatic. It improves our products and our lives by making them simpler and more efficient. It liberates us from drudgery and, when it's done right, astonishes us with creativity.
The heart of this simple and very practical program can be found in my new book Something Really New: Three Simple Steps to Creating Truly Innovative Products.
The book explains how to get closer to customer needs, how to take a commodity product and add new life to it and how to leapfrog customer expectations by linking your product or service with others. Some of the notions discussed in the book will be displayed here on the website. These notions work with hard products, software and services. And, of course, I would be happy to work with you on implementing this simple program in your environment.
As Publishers Weekly put it:
"Hauptly identifies three questions aimed at finding where customers are expending resources unnecessarily, allowing a manufacturer or service provider to help reduce those inefficiencies. These questions—“what tasks is the product really used for”; “when I know what a product is really used for, are there any steps that I can remove from the task”; and “what tasks are the very next tasks that the customer will want to perform after using my product”—get to the heart of driving innovation. In addition, he details how to navigate potential detours, such as finding the task beneath the function, putting everything together and dealing with the people challenges inherent in any organization. Hauptly's simple and straightforward approach will enable organizations to quickly and inexpensively create new products and services that have real value."
Entrepreneur magazine stated:
In Something Really New (Amacom, $21.95), corporate product development executive Denis J. Hauptly tells how to devise successful products and services by systematically identifying tasks that customers are trying to perform, removing steps and helping users move quickly and easily through the remaining steps. This practical approach identifies likely obstacles to innovation and offers proven tricks to overcome them.
AllBusiness.com had this to say:
"I just finished reading "Something Really New: Three Simple Steps to Creating Truly Innovative Products" by Denis J. Hauptly and it's this week's Must Read Business Book pick. Unlike other books in this arena, Hauptly expertly defines a powerful framework for creating new products and service concepts focused around simply asking three essential questions. The book deftly reduces the innovation process in that it presents a series of essential questions and the answers they inspire around product innovation."
The Chicago Daily Herald summarized the book this way:
"The RIGHT people have open minds and ask more questions before creating assumptions. They innovate by unraveling the mystery of the obvious. When they see a kitchen faucet, they may think about dispensing water in exact amounts, or at various temperatures, or including a washing agent in the sprayer's stream.
Imagine a kitchen faucet with a push-button, task-focused brain. That's "Something Really New".
